Swiss Valley Rangers has developed from a small group of 7 and
8 year old players who began training in September 1996 for
the local Gordano Valley Giants club.
The number of players grew during that season to a total of
30 and was split in two in October 1997. 15 of these players
played under the banner of Gordano Valley Rangers.
Rangers played a number of friendly matches in the
remainder of that season and a full complement of friendly
matches in season 1998/1999. With a squad that had now grown
to twenty-one players Rangers fielded two teams that competed
in the North Somerset Mini Football League during the season
1999/2000.
The "A" squad finished 6th in the NSMFL and
reached the Semi Final of the NSMFL Cup competition. The
"B" squad finished 7th in their Division of the
NSMFL. Rangers "A" side competed in ten summer
Tournaments, reaching seven Semi Finals and three Finals. The
"B" side also reached their first Semi Final in
1999.
The teams became the inaugural winners of the NSMFL
Sportsmanship Trophy. This is an achievement of which we are
justly proud and shows the character and ethos that has
developed in the Club.
A decision was made in April 2000 to form a new Club under
the name of Swiss Valley Rangers FC. A new home was found at
Swiss Valley Leisure Centre and an exciting development was
the introduction of girl's football to Swiss Valley.
The Boys were elected into the Woodspring League for season
2000/2001 and enjoyed considerable success. The "A"
team won the Woodspring league with 100% record and were
runners-up in the Woodspring Cup. An Under 10's boys team was
formed and entered the North Somerset Mini Football League.
The Girls entered the Bristol Girls League for the first
season and since 2001/2002 have competed in the Gloucester
County Girls Football League. The Under 12's won the Somerset
Sixes Summer League in 2001 at the end of their first season.
A further achievement came at the end of the 2002/2003
season when they became inaugural winners of the Gloucester FA
Sportsmanship Award for Girls Football. |
